This home came with a brief to keep all the vertical surfaces dynamic and the challenge was to create a décor that was very contemporary with strong colonial influences to give a vintage flavour to the spaces. Aanchhal Bhuwalka, the principal designer at AB Design created some unusual material marriages to achieve the desired effect, be it the use of metal and cane in the living and dining areas to add warmth with contemporary artwork on the walls or the old-world cigar room feel in the den with wainscoting panels in wooden finish complement the Chester sofa and trunk coffee table.

The wooden moulding on the living room wall offsets the neutral sofa colour scheme while the pop of colour as the armchair breaks the monotony of this area. A metal and cane partition is used to separate the living from the dining area and to give continuity to the spaces, cane is used in the dining chairs and crockery unit that has a huge painting on the wall above.

Acrylic graphite and white shutters with matching tiles for floor and dado complete the look in the kitchen.

The bedrooms are aesthetically done to reflect the taste of the occupants. While the kids’ room has the headboard made like bunny ears, the son gets it in braided style with vertical grooves across the wall. The master bedroom, however, has metal profiles with PU finish used as the back panel adding to the elegance.

The entire home has some interesting pieces of furniture created by AB Design that gives the house a vintage look. Another interesting feature is the use of leather on the ceiling. Although the house is compact, there are interesting conversation pieces like the trunk centre table that opens up or the TV unit that has storage space to stock the bar essentials.
