Betula Chair / Apical Reform

Apical Reform’s Betula Chair is a sheer example of fluid de-contructivism pleasing aesthetics and comfort.

Project Name
 : Betula Chair

Project Status : Built

Designer Description: The chair, a sinuous structure made entirely out of birch ply, is an example of fluid de-contructivism that is pleasing aesthetically and comforting ergonomically. The fluid form of the Betula was derived from a functional posture and the idea of continuity of the lines. The technique of layering is one of the key factors that adds to the aura of the chair and further beautifies the the form. Smooth flowing lines run along the form to give the impression of giving rise to a cantilevered, sculptured structure that is also pleasing to the eyes.

Concealed within the simple form of the chair is the meticulously resolved stability and comfort. The technique and the assembly involves an understanding of the overall form and the material used. Precision in alignment was one of the most crucial factors involved in the entire process. Birch Ply was used as a material as it was part of an exploration that were carried out with this material. The ideation for this project remains ongoing with further resolved prototypes under development.
