DE Apr – Jun 2025 Edition

With the second issue for 2025 we celebrate architecture & design but also the convergence—where design meets art, and function dances with form as products.

EDITOR’s NOTE

There’s a quiet revolution happening in the world of architecture and interior design—one that redefines the objects we live with. Where once function reigned supreme, we now see a graceful fusion of art and utility. Across the globe, sculptural furniture and collectible design pieces are no longer confined to galleries—they inhabit our homes, activate our spaces, and provoke emotion. These art objects, as we’ve come to call them, are not just beautiful to behold; they tell stories, evoke memory, and bring meaning to the mundane.

In this issue of DE INDIA, we celebrate this convergence—where design meets art, and function dances with form. Our DE Products section spotlights some of the most compelling examples of this global shift, from intimate spaces to grand showcases. We dive deep into the works of young visionary Indian studios and expand our gaze to the international stage, capturing the vibrancy of this trend as seen at this summer’s standout design events in London, Riyadh, and Copenhagen.

As a practicing architect once and now curator of this design platform since few years, I find myself both moved and invigorated by how designers today embrace this evolution. The rise of functional art feels deeply personal—reminding me why we began this journey with DE INDIA. This season, I was especially captivated by how art objects bring a quiet drama and a playful curiosity to a space. With that in mind, we invited Studio Indigene and StudioWorks—two young Indian furniture studios pushing the boundaries of design—to share their latest collections. Their work speaks volumes, and we’re thrilled to bring them into the spotlight.

Beyond these evocative objects, this issue brings you into spaces that hum with soul. You’ll explore residences that embody meditative calm, and public places that energize the communities around them. You shall experience how Sanjay Puri’s vivid architecture forms create exceptional homes, while Ashiesh Shah’s iconic luxury interior ideologies define hospitality trends in India.
Through candid conversations with some of the most thoughtful creatives working today, we’re reminded that design is not static—it is living, breathing, and constantly evolving.

In a world so often dominated by noise, design offers us a moment of clarity—an invitation to pause, feel, and reflect. I hope this issue inspires you to see your surroundings through a new lens, to discover beauty in the unexpected, and to always remain open to the transformative power of design. After all, the spaces we inhabit should not just serve us—they should speak to us.

Let’s Talk Design with DE. Happy Reading.

Cheers!!
